DTE screws the pooch again

by on Nov.19, 2008, under Uncategorized

Before I get into my rant, I have to jump in the way-back machine to tell you about the last time I had to deal with DTE…

I was buying my condo. I called DTE from my parents’ house to set up the electricity. I moved in. Everything was great. . . Until I got my first bill. They sent my my parents’ bill AND my bill. I called DTE. They fixed the problem… or did they?

The next month, my parents got their bill AND my bill. I called DTE. “I’m sorry. I can’t help you without talking to your mom.” Mom called. “I’m sorry. I can’t help you without talking to your son.” I called again. “I’m sorry, I can’t…”

“My mom’s on the line with us.”

“I can’t help you because your husband’s name is on the account.”

Mom blows up. They finally help us. Three days later, I come home from work and my electricity is shut off. DTE screwed up and instead of transfering service, they shut me off. I was livid. Finally talked to someone that was able to help me. I got turned back on about 2 hours later.

Fast forward to now. My brother’s just moved out of my condo. I need the electricity back in my name. He calls DTE to put a stop in. I call right after to put a transfer in. They give me a confirmation number. Everything’s supposed to be fine…

Until last night. I come home. Dark. Black. COLD. I call DTE… “We have no record of that phone call. Do you have a confirmation number?”

“Yep. It’s in my computer with the rest of my records. If you roll a truck, I’d be HAPPY to get you that number after I boot my computer.” <evil grin>

I finally talked to someone that was able to straighten me up. But I have to ask… Why does DTE suck so much ass? Seriously. TWICE they screwed me on this. If I could, I’d switch providers. I’d rather pay a little more for service that doesn’t suck. But it’s a monopoly. Hooray for monopolies.
